The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested three alleged sharpshooters of the Kapil Sangwan, alias Nandu, gang along with two alleged weapon suppliers, foiling a planned firing incident linked to an extortion racket operating in the national capital, officials said on Sunday.

According to the police, the accused had allegedly been tasked by gangster Kapil Sangwan to open fire at a clinic in Delhi’s Chhawla area to intimidate the target for extortion purposes.

The accused were identified as Abhishek, Sahil and Harshdeep, alias Polu, all residents of Amritsar, Punjab. The two alleged weapon providers arrested in the case are Karan, alias Ankush, and Aman, both residents of Kaithal in Haryana.

The police said the first arrest was made on March 20, 2026, when Abhishek was apprehended after sustained technical and manual surveillance.

Investigators said intelligence inputs had indicated that Punjab-based shooters had been engaged by the Nandu gang to carry out a firing at a prominent location in South-West Delhi. Following the lead, police teams monitored the suspects for over a month and identified the operatives who had allegedly conducted reconnaissance of the clinic in February this year, an official said.

During interrogation, Abhishek allegedly disclosed that he and his associates had travelled to Delhi in February under instructions from Kapil Sangwan, alias Nandu. The arms, ammunition and a motorcycle had been arranged in Delhi through associates based in Kaithal, the cop added.

However, the accused allegedly failed to execute the planned firing because of heavy public presence near the clinic and instead conducted reconnaissance with plans to strike later.

Based on Abhishek’s disclosure, the police arrested Sahil, Harshdeep, alias Polu, Karan, alias Ankush, and Aman in subsequent operations.

Police officials said interrogation of the accused revealed details about the functioning of the extortion network allegedly being operated by Kapil Sangwan from abroad. Investigators said the gang used compartmentalised operations and intermediaries to evade law enforcement agencies even if some operatives were arrested.

According to the police, Harshdeep, alias Polu, was allegedly in direct contact with the gangster and had recruited Sahil and Abhishek for the planned attack. Karan and Aman allegedly helped in collecting and delivering weapons to the shooters in Delhi.

Police records show that some of the accused were previously involved in criminal cases in Punjab and Haryana, including cases related to theft, arms offences and other criminal charges.

The police said further investigation was on to identify other members of the gang.
