MANILA, Philippines — Three senior police officials were reassigned in the latest reorganization within the Philippine National Police (PNP), stemming from developments at the PNP Academy (PNPA).
In an April 15 order, Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., PNP chief, designated BGen. Redrico Maranan, regional director of Police Regional Office-7 (PRO-7) in Central Visayas, as acting director of the PNPA,replacing BGen. Andrei Dizon, who was transferred to the Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (PHAU) following the April 3 incident in which three second-year cadets applied a mixture of muriatic acid and drain cleaner on the backs of more than 20 cadets.
Taking over as PRO-7 director is BGen. Arnold Evangelista Abad, while BGen. Arnold Casingal Santiago has been named acting director of the Manila Police District, replacing Abad.
"What triggered the reshuffle was the incident at the PNPA. Today, there will be a turnover at PRO-7 and tomorrow at the PNPA,” BGen. Randulf Tuaño, PNP spokesman, told reporters during a press briefing on Thursday.
Aside from Dizon, eight other PNPA officials -- one brigadier general, two colonels, two majors, and three sergeants -- were relieved of their posts and reassigned to the PHAU:
“In line with administrative action, the NHQ under PNP chief Gen. Nartatez decided to relieve the nine officials from their posts,” Tuaño said.
Police personnel assigned to the PHAU typically have no specific duties.
