TAWAU: Police arrested 30 suspects, including a man suspected of trafficking syabu, during an integrated anti-drug operation at Kampung Kurnia Jaya, Batu 4, Jalan Apas here on Tuesday.
Acting Tawau police chief Supt Wilynton Enchana Watt said police screened 36 detainees, with 28 testing positive for drugs, while officers also allegedly seized about 50.35 grammes of suspected syabu from the suspected trafficker, who is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He said another suspect was detained for allegedly possessing about 0.24 grammes of suspected drugs and is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the same Act, while the 28 individuals who tested positive are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a).
Wilynton said another suspect was also detained after allegedly being found in possession of nine litres of ketum liquid and 2,351.65 grammes of ketum powder, with the case being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
He said the operation involved 169 personnel from the police and several enforcement agencies, while the Immigration Department detained 30 individuals over documentation and citizenship issues, the Road Transport Department issued 66 summonses for various traffic offences, and police urged the public to continue sharing information to help combat crime and illegal activities.
