KUALA LUMPUR – Police have dismantled a major drug trafficking syndicate after seizing 166.2kg of marijuana buds worth an estimated RM13.34 million in four separate raids at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 and a house in Kota Warisan, Sepang.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the joint operation, carried out by the KLIA Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) auxiliary police, took place between June 29 and July 4.
Five suspects were arrested – two foreign men, one local man and two local women – who are believed to be linked to separate drug distribution networks.
The first raid on June 29 saw officers uncover 33.6kg of marijuana buds worth RM2.7 million concealed in two suspicious suitcases at KLIA before arresting a 25-year-old foreign man.
Later that day, police detained a 35-year-old local woman after discovering 21.1kg of marijuana buds valued at RM1.7 million in a suitcase.
"Preliminary urine screening found the suspect positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. She has been remanded for 12 days and is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," Shazeli told a press conference today.
In the third operation on July 3, police arrested a local married couple in the car park of a condominium in Kota Warisan before uncovering 76kg of marijuana buds worth RM6.1 million at a rented house believed to have been used as a storage and distribution point.
Police also seized a Perodua Alza, estimated to be worth RM20,000, which is believed to have been used to transport the drugs.
The final operation on July 4 resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old foreign man after officers found 35.5kg of marijuana buds worth RM2.84 million concealed in two suitcases at KLIA.
Shazeli said the total seizure of 166.2kg of marijuana buds, valued at RM13.34 million, was believed to have been intended for the European market via KLIA Terminal 1.
"The 166.2kg of marijuana buds seized in this operation could potentially supply up to 554,000 users, based on an estimated consumption of 0.3g per individual.
"All suspects have been remanded to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he said. – July 9, 2026
