TAWAU: A suspected drug trafficker was among 30 people arrested during an integrated anti-narcotics operation at Kampung Kurnia Jaya, Batu 4, Jalan Apas, on Tuesday.
Acting Tawau Police Chief Supt Wilynton Enchana Watt said urine tests were conducted on 36 detainees, with 28 testing positive for syabu while the others tested negative.
He said 50.35gm of a crystal-like substance, believed to be syabu, was seized from the suspected drug trafficker, adding an investigation paper has been opened under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Wilynton said another suspect was detained for possession of 0.24gm of suspected drugs and is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The 28 detainees who tested positive are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, he added.
Another suspect was arrested after nine litres of ketum liquid and 2,351.65gm of ketum powder were found in his possession. The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
The integrated operation was coordinated by the Tawau District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division with the cooperation of various enforcement agencies, involving 169 officers, personnel and staff.
Among those involved were personnel from the Tawau, Semporna and Kunak district police headquarters, the 14th Battalion General Operations Force, Marine Police Force, the Immigration Department, Road Transport Department and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB).
