Kota Kinabalu: Over 300 golfers will participate in the CM’s Charity Golf at Shangri-La’s Dalit Bay Golf and Country Club in Tuaran today (Saturday) and Sunday.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor will give away the prizes and present donations to charity organisation in and around Tuaran on Sunday (tomorrow).

The two-day event will see attractive hole-in-one prizes, include a unit of condominium worth more than RM600,000, Proton Saga, Proton X50 and Proton X70 amounting to almost RM1 million.

The prizes are donated by businessman George Teo.

The charity golf is organised by the Lions Club of Tuaran and an NGO.

According to Co-organising Chairman, Janih Bangud, who is also Sabah Sports Board Deputy Chairman, the purpose of the event is to raise funds for several charitable organisations in Tuaran such as mosques, churches and temples as well as Tolumis Care Centre, Tuaran Care Centre for the Blind, home for orphans (Home Tuaran) and hostel for poor students (San Domiano Hostel Kiulu Tuaran), among others.

“We are pleased with the overwhelming response from the more than 300 golfers and hoped that the weather will be kind to us during the two-day event,” he said.

Janih apologised to those who have expressed interest in taking part in the event but the organisers were unable to accommodate as all the slots have been fully booked.

“We have to stop accepting registration three weeks before the closing date,” he said.

The tournament will be divided into three categories – VIP, Open and Senior.

According to Frankie Goh, President of Lions Club Tuaran, the club decided to jointly organise the tournament not only for the club’s charity activities but also in supporting the Chief Minister, who is known as a kind-hearted person.

Meanwhile, Janih thanked George, KKIP, Sabah Development Bank, Qhazanah Bhd, Sogip, Sawit Kinabalu, Sabah Land Development Board (SLDB) and Sabah Energy Corporation Sdn Bhd for sponsoring the event.
