31 take part in badminton umpires course

Kota Kinabalu: A total of 31 umpires took part in the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) accredited and certificated badminton umpires course held at the SK Muhibbahraya’s conference room in Tawau recently.

The two-day course organised by Sabah Badminton Association (SBA) in collaboration with Kalabakan Badminton Association was conducted by international referee course conductor Datuk Anthony Linggian who is also SBA’s technical committee chairman.

AdvertisementAnthony said the participants received in-depth training on key aspects of badminton officiating throughout the session. According to him, the comprehensive course was to prepare them for the BAM umpires theory examinations to be held later this year.

He added that the knowledge they gained will also help Tawau district to organise more tournaments in surrounding districts such as Semporna, Lahad Datu, Kunak and Kalabakan.

Read more Meanwhile, Kalabakan Badminton Association president Saharudin Kasim said with the increased number of qualified umpires in the districts, they will be able to unearth more talents from organising more quality tournaments in the future.

He also thanked Anthony for conducting the course despite his busy schedule. The closing ceremony was officiated by Kukusan Assemblywoman Datuk Rina Jainal who is also the Finance Minister’s political secretary.
