34 tenants lose Krubong PPR units over subletting

MELAKA – A total of 34 units under the Krubong Public Housing Project (PPR) here have been withdrawn from their tenants after they were caught subletting the homes to others, said senior Housing executive councillor Datuk Rais Yasin.

He said the Melaka Housing Board took action against the tenants based on its monitoring after the Krubong PPR was accorded Rent-to-Own (RTO) status in August last year.

“The PPR units are a facility provided by the government and tenants should return them if they do not want to stay there. Many other people need these houses.

“That is why we decided to take back these units and identify others who are eligible to be given these houses,” he told reporters after visiting the Krubong PPR recently.

He said the government was spending significantly on subsidising the units, which are sold at RM35,000 each under the RTO scheme – where tenants pay RM275 a month inclusive of maintenance fees over a 20-year period.

“Those who sublet to others after getting these units show that they do not need these houses anymore,” he said. – Bernama, April 24, 2023
