38 seafarers back from Strait of Hormuz

THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced on Friday the return of 38 Filipino seafarers from four vessels that sustained attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.

The DMW said in a statement the repatriated seamen were onboard MV Marathi, MV Minoan Pioneer, MV Blue and MV Nissos Sifnos during the attacks. They were met upon arrival at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 by representatives from the DMW, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and Manila International Airport Authority medical team. The repatriated seamen underwent medical checkups and received financial assistance from the DMW and OWWA. Representatives of their manning agencies, including Sea Gate Navigation Corp., Intercrew Philippines Agency Inc. and Bright Maritime Corp., were also present during the seafarers’ arrival. ”It is important that the manning agencies arrange the necessary physical and psychological checks, debriefing sessions, and applicable benefits and compensation for the repatriated seafarers,” the DMW said. The DMW said that 218 seafarers from vessels attacked in the Persian Gulf and the Black Sea have been repatriated since July 7.
