
RANAU: A total of 39,548 candidates turned up on the first day of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) written examination which got underway statewide, Thursday.
Director of Sabah of the Sabah State Education Department (JPN Sabah) Datuk Haji Raisin Bin Saidin said the exam would be held over five weeks, from Jan. 2 to 6 February 2025.
Advertisement“Out of the total 35,232 of them consist of students from KPM schools, 472 candidates from schools under government agencies, while 234 candidates are from State Religious Secondary School.
“Meanwhile there are 2,425 private candidates (calon persendirian) and 1,185 Private School candidates.

Meanwhile, Raisin said JPN Sabah had identified areas that are affected by the flooding situation but not a single school has been affected.

Candidates are advised to inform the school or Sabah JPN immediately if they are unable to attend the designated examination centre or any nearby examination centre due to a disaster.

“Sabah JPN is committed to doing its best to ensure that the 2024 SPM examination can be carried out smoothly and in an orderly manner.
“Sabah JPN always prays that all candidates can sit for the examination in a healthy, safe and prosperous condition,” he said.
Sabah JPN reminded all SPM examination candidates to refer to the examination timetable for information on dates, times, examination codes and papers, as well as instructions that must be followed throughout the examination.
“Candidates are reminded to bring their identification documents and Examination Registration Statement to the examination centre.
“Candidates must also comply with the standard operating procedures and regulations set to ensure the smooth management of the examination,” he said.
In BELURAN, four candidates who were stranded due to the flood in Kg Memanjang near Ladang Ah San, were assisted by Beluran Fire and Rescue Department personnel to cross the floodwaters by boat.
Beluran Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Edoen Macheal, said the station received a call regarding the incident at 7.29am and immediately dispatched five personnel to the location to assist the affected students.
All the students were safely taken to a secure place to go to school and the operation to assist them was concluded at 9.08am.
