The third All India Police Weightlifting Cluster Championship 2026-27, was formally inaugurated on Saturday at Vachher Stadium, Haryana Police Academy, Madhuban, by Charu Bali, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Police Complex, Bhondsi, Gurugram.

The championship will continue till May 27, with competitions in weightlifting, powerlifting and yoga for both men and women categories. A total of 29 teams from across the country are participating and competing for medals in their respective events.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Charu Bali highlighted the importance of sports in an overall development of a person. She said sports play a vital role in maintaining discipline, especially in a disciplined force like the police.

She described the championship as a symbol of “unity in diversity” and appreciated the contribution of police forces towards the nation’s internal security.

She also said Haryana has always remained at the forefront in the field of sports and that police personnel from the state have brought laurels at national and international levels.

Several distinguished athletes are presently serving in Haryana Police in various capacities, contributing to both sports and public service. She congratulated Haryana Police for successfully organising the championship and expressed hope that such sporting events would continue in the future.

Speaking on the occasion, Om Prakash Narwal, Inspector General, Haryana Armed Police (HAP) Madhuban, said policing has become increasingly challenging in present times, but police personnel continue to perform their duties with dedication while also excelling in sports.

He expressed pride that many Haryana Police athletes have enhanced the reputation of both the state and the police force at national and international platforms.

Meanwhile, a march past was also organised, with players from different teams participating enthusiastically. The chief guest took the salute during the ceremony.
