
A total of 4,80,781 voters will exercise their franchise on Tuesday to decide the fate of 695 candidates contesting in the Local Bodies’ Elections across 166 wards in the district.
Polling parties have been dispatched for all 498 polling booths established across the district. Voting will commence at 8 am and continue till 5 pm.
The total electorate in the district comprises 2,48,415 male voters, 2,32,340 female voters and 26 other voters.
In Municipal Corporation Mohali, 227 candidates are contesting from 50 wards. A total of 90,505 male voters, 84,844 female voters and 8 other voters will cast their votes at 184 polling booths.
In Municipal Council Zirakpur, 124 candidates are in the fray from 31 wards. A total of 70,226 male voters, 66,191 female voters and 8 other voters will exercise their franchise at 128 polling booths.
In Municipal Council Dera Bassi, 79 candidates are contesting from 18 wards, while one candidate has already been declared elected unopposed. A total of 26,888 male voters, 24,564 female voters and 5 other voters will cast their votes at 51 polling booths.
In Municipal Council Nayagaon, 87 candidates are contesting from 21 wards where 23,717 male voters, 21,266 female voters and one other voter will exercise their voting rights at 51 polling booths.
In Municipal Council Lalru, 61 candidates are contesting from 16 wards while one candidate has already been declared elected unopposed. A total of 16,031 male voters, 14,360 female voters and 3 other voters will cast their votes at 33 polling booths.
In Municipal Council Kurali, 77 candidates are contesting from 17 wards. A total of 13,332 male voters and 14,070 female voters will exercise their franchise at 33 polling booths.
Likewise, in Municipal Council Banur, 40 candidates are contesting from 13 wards where 7,716 male voters, 7,045 female voters and one other voter will cast their votes at 18 polling booths.
CCTV monitoring arrangements have been made at all polling booths as per the directions of the State Election Commission, Punjab.
Out of the total 498 polling booths, 66 polling locations have been identified as Sensitive and 181 as Hyper Sensitive, where additional deployment of security personnel has been ensured.
