40 passengers escape unhurt after express bus swerves to avoid motorcycle and crashes in Kinabatangan
PETALING JAYA: A total of 40 people on an express bus went through a frightening experience when the vehicle veered off the road and overturned onto its side near Kampung Paris 2 along Jalan Sandakan–Lahad Datu today.
The incident occurred at about 11.40am while the bus was travelling from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan, New Straits Times reported.
District police chief Superintendent D. Ravi said initial investigations found that the driver had swerved to avoid a motorcycle that suddenly emerged from a junction on the left side of the road.
“The driver was unable to identify the make, model or registration number of the motorcycle. In attempting to avoid it, the bus veered off towards the roadside,” he said.
Despite the incident, both the driver and all 39 passengers escaped without injuries.
