KINABATANGAN:  An express bus was involved in an accident after it was believed to have swerved to avoid a motorcycle that suddenly emerged along Jalan Kampung Paris 2, Sandakan–Lahad Datu road, on Sunday morning.

In the incident at about 11.40am, the bus, which was travelling from Kota Kinabalu to Semporna, lost control before veering off onto the grassy roadside.

Kinabatangan District Police Chief Ravi Anak Lelaki Duraisamy said initial investigations found the accident occurred when an unidentified motorcycle exited from a junction on the left without warning.

“The bus driver attempted to avoid the motorcycle by swerving to the left, but lost control and veered off the road,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

He said the bus was carrying 39 passengers, including the driver, and all were reported safe with no injuries.
