AOX 2026 presents excitement, adventure and the road less travelled

From pitching a tent and testing your riding skills to exploring four decades of offroad history, discovering Formula 1 merchandise and admiring a legendary Ferrari, AOX 2026 brings excitement, motorsport and automotive passion together in Kuala Lumpur.

This weekend, visitors can discover this world of adventure and offroad at the Asia Offroad Expo & Convention (AOX) 2026.

The event was officially opened by Ms Tan Mei Phing, CEO of the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) on Friday.

Organised by Explorer Outfitter Sdn Bhd, AOX 2026 is Asia's first dedicated offroad, overland and adventure mobility expo. Running until Sunday, October 25, it brings together vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, outdoor equipment, industry experts and adventure communities under one roof.

But there is more to discover this year than rugged vehicles and equipment designed for challenging terrain.

From Offroad Trails to Formula 1 Adding a new dimension to the exhibition is Trackside Lab, Malaysia's official F1 and motorsport store, which will be participating in AOX 2026.

Motorsport fans can explore products and merchandise from many of the celebrated Formula 1 teams including McLaren F1, Mercedes-AMG F1, Red Bull Racing, Scuderia Ferrari and Williams Racing.

For fans who follow the drama of the world's premier motor racing championship, this offers an opportunity to get closer to the teams and brands they support.

And for those who appreciate automotive engineering as much as racing, there is another attraction to look forward to: the Ferrari 458 Italia.

The Last of a Naturally Aspirated Legend, as it is fittingly described, represents a remarkable chapter in Ferrari's performance heritage.

Its sculpted Italian design houses a naturally aspirated 4.5-litre V8 engine producing 570 horsepower at 9,000 rpm. Without turbocharging, the engine delivers a distinctive, immediate connection between throttle, engine response and driver.

The 458 Italia captures a golden era of Ferrari engineering, when the sound and character of a high-revving engine were central to the driving experience.

Its appearance at AOX adds a different kind of horsepower to an event otherwise associated with offroad exploration and overland journeys, broadening its appeal to automotive enthusiasts.

Four Decades of Offroad and Overland History

One of AOX 2026's most significant attractions is its 40-year compilation of Asian offroad and overland history.

Created by AOX with the support and endorsement of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC), the gallery celebrates the people, journeys, vehicles and milestones that helped shape the region's offroad and overland community.

For longtime enthusiasts, it is an opportunity to revisit memorable expeditions and recognise how the industry has evolved.

For younger visitors, it offers a glimpse into an era when exploration often demanded considerable resourcefulness, navigation skills and mechanical knowledge.

The gallery is more than a collection of historical memories. It recognises a community whose experiences have helped lay the foundations for today's growing adventure mobility movement.

With MOTAC's support and endorsement, the initiative also highlights the heritage value of preserving these stories for future generations.

The Sarawak Tourism Board has also displayed eight booths filled with Sarawak's rich culture, heritage, nature and attractions. For those keen to find out more about the wonders of East Malaysia, this is worth a visit.

Inaugural AOX 2026 Is More Than an Exhibition

AOX 2026 is not simply a place to admire impressive vehicles and specialised equipment.

Visitors can learn, participate and meet the people who make adventures possible.

The AOX Marketplace offers an opportunity to explore products and equipment, while the expedition and competition vehicle showcase brings visitors closer to machines built for demanding journeys.

Those new to camping can learn how to pitch a tent and set up camp, gaining practical knowledge that could prove useful on their next outdoor excursion.

For 4x4 owners and aspiring adventurers, Dave Gunning from the United Kingdom brings the world of Bush Mechanics to life with demonstrations of how to fix a 4x4 vehicle under a tree.

Motorcycle enthusiasts can head to the Surron Precision Ride Challenge to test their riding skills, with local racing legend Oh Kah Beng and Daniel Chan from Surron sharing insights into bike control.

Building a More Responsible Adventure Industry

The official opening marks an important milestone for an event that seeks to bring Asia's offroad and adventure mobility industry closer together.

AOX's programme includes participation from partners such as the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and the Malaysia Institute of ESG (MiESG).

As more people venture into the outdoors, public-road safety, responsible trail use, environmental protection and sustainable mobility deserve greater attention.

The proposed Asian Offroad Industry Resolutions address five key areas: establishing Asia as a global manufacturing and distribution hub, harmonising industry standards, preparing for electrification and sustainability, improving public-road safety, and protecting nature.

Meet the People Behind the Journeys

Behind every extraordinary expedition are people with stories worth hearing.

AOX founder and Explorer Outfitter chief executive Thomas Foo has undertaken 47 transcontinental expeditions over four decades

Another notable personality is Nick Sanders MBE, the global ride ambassador, whose remarkable journeys by bicycle and motorcycle have taken him around the world multiple times.

Their experiences offer visitors insights into what drives people to leave familiar surroundings, embrace uncertainty and continue towards the next destination.

From expedition veterans to motorcycle enthusiasts and motorsport fans, AOX creates opportunities for people with different interests to share a common fascination with mobility, machines and exploration.

Come for the machines, discover the stories and leave inspired to explore.
