A two-day programme at Universiti Malaya brought 400 pupils together for PKSK preparation, motivational sessions and National Day celebrations.
PETALING JAYA: Some 400 primary school students from across the country marked National Day by taking part in a two-day preparation programme for the highly competitive Pentaksiran Kemasukan Sekolah Khusus (PKSK) at Universiti Malaya (UM).
The sixth edition of Fenomena PKSK Merdeka 2026, organised by Fly High Education Centre (Fly High), brought together Year Five and Year Six students from Sarawak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak and Johor, who are preparing for admission to specialised secondary schools including Sekolah Berasrama Penuh (SBP), Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA).
The students marked the occasion by wearing patriotic-themed attire and uniforms representing co-curricular bodies including Scouts, Puteri Islam and Kadet Remaja Sekolah, while waving the Jalur Gemilang and singing the national anthem, Negaraku.
Fly High founder Hajjah Wan Rafidah Wan Ali said celebrating National Day with the students was aimed at instilling patriotism among the younger generation.
“We celebrate National Day with the children and sing Negaraku together to strengthen their love for the country.
“It is important that this sense of patriotism continues to be nurtured among the younger generation,” she said.
She said education was also an important part of giving meaning to independence by equipping young Malaysians with knowledge, confidence and the ability to shape their future.
Wan Rafidah said between 70% and 80% of students who consistently attended Fly High classes achieved their targets, highlighting the importance of sustained preparation.
The programme also featured a special appearance by nine-year-old Anggrek binti Adenan, daughter of singer Adira Suhaimi and champion of the second season of Talk To My Manager.
Anggrek received the GenFly Special Education Recognition Certificate after being selected as a GenFly Study Buddy, which gives her access to supplementary education sponsored by Fly High until she turns 12.
Motivational speaker Nazira Nazir also conducted a letter-writing session, where participants expressed their appreciation and gratitude towards their mothers.
Among the participants were cousins Muhammad Rifqi Sufi Rashid, 12, and Muhammad Al Fatih Mohmaed Rosli from Kelantan, who have been preparing for the PKSK since April through home-based learning and tuition classes.
Rifqi Sufi said the preparation journey had not dampened his enthusiasm, as he wanted to further strengthen his readiness and improve his chances of securing a place at his preferred school.
Muhammad Al Fatih, meanwhile, said he hoped to improve his academic preparation while pursuing his ambition of becoming a firefighter.
“We were willing to travel this far because we are determined to learn and prepare ourselves as well as possible. We hope all this effort will help us achieve our dreams,” they said.
Wan Rafidah said she hoped the participants would secure places at their preferred institutions, including SBP, SBPI, MRSM Ulul Albab, MRSM Bitara and selected SMKA.
The programme also featured motivational and learning sessions conducted by Fly High educators to strengthen the students’ confidence and readiness ahead of the PKSK assessment, which is scheduled to begin on Oct 7.
