A 41-year-old woman was arrested after she climbed the main stage and tried to approach Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, during the state-level National Day celebration on Sunday morning.

According to Kosmo, Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin stated that the incident occurred at around 8.20am, when the national anthem was being played.

The woman reportedly entered from the side of the stage before security managed to stop her.

Was mentally ill

Police confirmed that the woman, a local, had previous records linked to drug-related cases and psychiatric treatment.

However, urine tests conducted on her came back negative. She was then taken to the police station for further questioning.

The case is being investigated under Section 325/511 of the Penal Code for attempted grievous hurt.

Incident shocked crowd

Berita Harian reported that witnesses described the woman, dressed in a black shirt and trousers, as initially standing behind the main stage before suddenly running towards Sultan Nazrin.

She was seen pulling and attempting to hug him from behind before security intervened.

The incident lasted about 40 seconds, leaving many attendees startled.

Some initially thought it was part of a performance before realising it was a real security breach.

Datuk Noor Hisam warned the public to respect official state ceremonies and not to engage in acts that could disrupt public order or threaten the safety of leaders and dignitaries.
