Freak accidents can happen to anyone in the most unexpected ways, where one loses his/her life in the flash of an eye before appropriate action can be taken.
Unfortunately for a man in Kelantan, he was tragically killed after he plunged from a durian tree while trying to pick stink beans (petai) from another tree.
M’sian man falls 30m from durian tree
According to Sinar Harian, the accident took place at Telosan in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan at around 2pm yesterday (Jan 17).
The victim was identified as 44-year-old Mohd Zainuri Hamzah, who died at the scene of the accident.
Pasir Puteh Fire and Rescue Station chief, Assistant Fire and Rescue Officer Azhar Elmi Mustofar said the department received a call at 2.09pm, where they were told a man had fallen from a durian tree.
“A total of 11 personnel, including officers, were dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, they found that the victim had fallen 30 metres from a durian tree while scaling it to pick some stink beans,” he said.
Firefighters later used a stretcher to carry the victim’s body away from the scene for a distance of 2km long.
The body was eventually handed over to the police for further action.
Our condolences to the victim’s family for their loss and we hope no more lives will be lost in such a manner.
