TAWAU: Police detained a 45-year-old local man after he allegedly acted aggressively towards his 84-year-old father and threatened to burn down their house at Kampung Tanah Merah, Tanjung Batu, here on Monday.
Tawau police chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the suspect was arrested at about 5.30pm the same day after his father lodged a report over the incident.
He said the suspect allegedly went to his parents’ home at about 11am and threw a slipper at his father, who managed to avoid being hit before retreating into a room for safety.
Rosdi said the victim also told police that the suspect had threatened to burn the house about two days earlier and had frequently caused disturbances and damaged items inside the house.
He said initial investigations found the victim was not injured and no weapon was involved apart from the slipper, while the suspect had four previous criminal records; the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
