48 ancient Egyptian treasures returned to Egyptian authorities after FBI investigation

The FBI has returned 48 ancient Egyptian artefacts to Egypt following an investigation by its Art Crime Team. The collection includes figurines, amulets and tomb equipment dating from the Pharaonic, Roman and Coptic periods. FBI Assistant Director Patrick Grandy said: "These artefacts represent the rich history of Egypt. Most of them are thousands of years old, and their cultural significance to the Egyptian people is invaluable."

Allen Grove, a special agent on the team, said investigators are still working to identify people who may have been involved in trafficking the artefacts.

“Despite knowing that the suspected trafficker is now deceased, we are seeking to identify further co-conspirators. And additionally, we have reason to believe there may be more items out there," Grove said.
