
TAWAU: Four quarry workers narrowly escaped death after the four-wheel-drive vehicle they were in skidded and plunged into a quarry ravine at Kukusan, Jalan Tanjung Batu Laut, here, Monday.
Tawau District Fire and Rescue Station Deputy Supt II Jemishin Ujin said the four-wheel-drive vehicle flipped over after falling into a 7m-deep ravine.
“All victims trapped inside the vehicle sustained injuries but were successfully and safely extricated by quarry workers at the scene,” he said.
Earlier, the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department in a statement, said the victims are aged between 31 and 46.
The media was informed that an emergency call regarding the incident was received at 1.34pm., prompting a team from Tawau Fire and Rescue Station to rush to the location.
The team, consisting of seven personnel and led by Operations Commander Usman Shahbudin arrived at the scene about 10 minutes later.
Upon arrival, initial treatment was immediately administered to the victims before two of them were sent to the hospital by the fire department and the other two via ambulance.
After confirming the situation was under control, the team decided to conclude their operation at the scene at 2.07pm.
