
A MODERATE 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck the Western Caroline Islands in Micronesia at 6.53am today, with no tsunami threat to Malaysia, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia).
METMalaysia said the earthquake was centred at coordinates 9.7 degrees North and 138.8 degrees East, about 1,129 kilometres east of Tagum City, Philippines.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres.
In a statement posted on Facebook, METMalaysia said there was no tsunami threat to Malaysia following the earthquake. - August 18, 2026
