Closer on the heels of seizure of a large quantity of contraband, the Counter Intelligence (CI), Ferozepur, has busted a cross-border illegal arms trafficking module with the arrest of its weapon supplier. It has recovered five .30 bore Glock pistols along with four live cartridges from their possession.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said that the arrested accused had been identified as Lakhwinder Singh, a resident of Khehra Ke Uttar village in Ferozepur. The arrested accused has a criminal background and had been released from jail a month ago.

The DGP said that as per preliminary investigations, it had come to fore that the recovered weapons were allegedly smuggled into India through cross-border channels and intended for further distribution through the network. He said that further investigation was under way to uncover forward and backward linkages in this case to identify all individuals associated with the module.

Sharing operational details, AIG, CI (Ferozepur), Gursewak Singh said that police teams had received reliable input about suspect Lakhwinder Singh working as a weapon supplier in the region. Acting swiftly, a police team of CI, Ferozepur, carried out a secret operation in the Kulgarhi area of Ferozepur and arrested Lakhwinder Singh, he said, while adding that during his search, the police party recovered the consignment of five sophisticated weapons.

The AIG said that probe had revealed that the accused was to supply these recovered weapons to ground operatives of criminal groups on the direction of his handler. More arrests and recoveries were likely in coming days as the investigation progresses, he added.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 103, dated 25-05-2026, under Section 25 of the Arms Act has been registered at the Kulgarhi police station in Ferozepur.
