
The Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of the Punjab Police has busted a cross-border drug smuggling module, arresting four drug peddlers and seizing 28.12 kg of heroin along with Rs 9.5 lakh in drug money during an operation in the Guruharsahai area of this border district.
Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav, in a post on X, said preliminary investigations revealed that the module had links with foreign-based smugglers and handlers, who had tasked the accused with retrieving and distributing the narcotics consignment within Indian territory. He added that further investigation was under way.
In another operation conducted on Saturday, police arrested three alleged drug smugglers and seized 4.254 kg of heroin from their possession.
The accused were identified as Ranjeet Singh alias Rana (22), Arshdeep Singh alias Arshi (19), both residents of Gamewala village in the Mamdot area, and Akashdeep Singh alias Akash (19), a resident of Aasal village in the Sadar area. They were apprehended while travelling on a motorcycle. Besides the narcotics, police also recovered three mobile phones from them.
Similarly, in two separate intelligence-based operations carried out on Thursday, the Ferozepur Police busted a major narco-smuggling network with the arrest of three key operatives allegedly involved in drug trafficking activities.
Police seized 10.125 kg of heroin, 2 kg of ice (methamphetamine), and a .30 bore Turkish-made pistol from their possession.
The arrested accused were identified as Om alias Omi (23), a resident of Leli Wala village in Ferozepur, and Aniket Kumar (22) and Sumit (23), both residents of Shanti Nagar, Ferozepur.
Preliminary investigations revealed the involvement of an organised drug supply chain with links to Pakistani drug smugglers in this case as well.
