Reported by Kwong Wah Yit Poh, the investigations revealed that prior to the incident, the teacher had used a stone to carve a message on a wall at the rooftop area.

The message was said to express deep emotion and a sense of reluctance, believed to have been written shortly before the fall.

The deceased was living in Bandar Bukit Selambau, Kedah and was a teacher at SMK Merbok.

He leaves behind his wife, who is also an educator at a vocational college, and their four children.

It is understood that the teacher had been dealing with mental health issues.

He had sought treatment from a psychiatrist on April 6 and had also reportedly shared thoughts of ending his life with colleagues a day before the incident. However, this did not raise alarm at the time.

Not a hotel guest

Kuala Muda police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said that police received a report about a body found in the back alley of a hotel earlier that morning.

Preliminary investigations found that the man was not a guest at the hotel.

He had arrived at around 8am and asked hotel staff about the operating hours of the rooftop swimming pool, which is open to the public for an entry fee of RM15.

He was later seen at the rooftop at around 9am before the incident happened shortly after.

Case classified as sudden death

As the incident took place in a busy city area, it drew a large crowd of onlookers.

Police have classified the case as a sudden death. The body has since been sent to the mortuary for a post mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
