A 53-year-old man in Bercham, Ipoh, collapsed while playing badminton with friends and later passed away despite efforts to save him.

The incident happened yesterday night (Mar 11), at a badminton court when the man suddenly sat down in pain before losing consciousness, reported Sin Chew Daily.

His friends immediately called for help, and the Bercham Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association received the emergency call at 9.46pm.

A team of six firefighters arrived at 9.58pm and found that he still had a pulse and heartbeat.

While waiting for the ambulance, they performed CPR and provided oxygen, leading to the man regaining a pulse after two to three minutes. An oxygen mask was then placed on him before he was rushed to the hospital.

However, on the way to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, he lost his pulse again and paramedics had to perform CPR once more.

Upon arrival at the hospital, emergency doctors took over, but despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead.

Ipoh Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal confirmed the incident and said the case has been classified as sudden death (SDR).

Just last week, an elderly man also died in a similar fashion in Alor Setar:
