Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s mobile online game players broke the record for most games played in a day, with over 550 matches of eFootball in one single day across the whole State, Tuesday.

eFootball National League Sabah Qualifier organising chairman Andi Rizman Lampe said they received an overwhelming response from the players even though eFootball is relatively new.

“Our administrators were thrilled and shocked during the first day of the series (Tuesday), having needing to handle 550 matches in a single day,” said Andi, who is also Squadrhino Esport Club (SPC) President.

“This is a very positive sign for esports, and SPC will be in talks with the State association to do further events.”

It is expected to be finished at two times the speed of other state qualifiers.

The State selection of the Malaysia Esport League is organised by Squadrhino Esport Club (SPC) and Sabah Electronical Sports Association (Persues).

The winner of the series will become the State representative in the Malaysian Esports League 2023 hosted by the Youth and Sports Ministry’s Esport Integrated (ESI).

ESI’s primary role is to catalyse a vibrant, sustainable, and healthy ecosystem for the community.

The Malaysian Esport League 2023 is a national event boosting a whopping price pool of RM346,900.

The event is held annually, and this is the third edition of the event.

The league aims to cultivate grassroots talent and a scouting platform for esports athletes for Sukma, Sea Games, Asian Games and possibly the Olympic Games.

The titles of games included are eFootball, Mobile Legend Bang Bang, PUBG Mobile, Dota 2, Valorant, and Tekken 7.

Persues President Chucky Cheoh said ESI has done an excellent job organising the national league.

“They even included the sponsorships for flight and accommodation for East Malaysians to compete in Kuala Lumpur.

“They also provided guidelines and roadmaps on esports wellbeing and health to curb the issue of gaming addiction.

“With these, we hope further to improve the esports scene and ecosystem in Sabah,” he said.
