Amid a rise in cyber crime cases in Nuh district, 58 villages have been placed under police surveillance under Operation Clean. The Nuh police have identified these villages as cybercrime hotspots and started issuing legal notices to the respective sarpanches.

According to the police, these villages are repeatedly linked to online fraud, fake calls, digital arrest scams and OLX fraud. Officials said the trend is tarnishing the district’s image and reinforcing Nuh’s reputation as a cybercrime hub.

A senior police officer said the situation has prompted the administration to fix accountability at the village level. Sarpanches have been warned that they could face legal action if they are found sheltering cyber criminals in their villages. Most of the identified villages fall under the Punhana, Bichor and Ferozpur Jhirka police station areas.

The police officials said arrests in cyber fraud cases have continued across several villages. However, reports of local support for criminals have also emerged. In response, the police launched Operation Clean to dismantle cybercrime networks and eliminate their activities.

The police have also appealed to residents to socially boycott those involved in cybercrime and share information about them, helping free the district from the menace.

“Special drives will be launched in villages that serve as safe havens for cyber criminals. Strict action will be taken against offenders, their associates and those who provide them protection,” said Arpit Jain, SP, Nuh.

In 2023, the Haryana Police conducted one of the country’s largest coordinated cybercrime crackdowns in Nuh district. More than 5,000 police personnel in 102 teams raided 14 identified villages, detaining around 125 hackers and arresting 66 suspects. At present, the Nuh police arrest an average of two cyber criminals every week.
