Six members of a family from Haryana’s Fatehabad district were killed and a young girl was critically injured after their car collided head-on with a dumper truck in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district on Monday afternoon.
The family was returning home after paying obeisance at Mukam Dham when the accident took place near Hemasar village in the Shri Dungargarh area.
The impact was so severe that the Swift Dzire car was completely mangled. Deep skid marks were visible on the road, indicating the force of the collision. Police and local residents rushed to the spot and used cutters to remove the victims from the wreckage.
Six family members died on the spot, while an injured girl was taken to a community health centre in Shri Dungargarh and later referred to PBM Hospital in Bikaner due to her critical condition. The deceased were identified as Om Prakash Suthar, a resident of Matana village in Fatehabad, his wife Sorma Devi (55), daughter Pramila (30), granddaughter Yashvi (10), granddaughter Khushi (8), and grandson Ronit (4).
Om Prakash had retired as a senior accountant from the Fatehabad DDPO office on May 31, just two weeks before the tragedy. According to family members, he used to visit Mukam Dham on every Amavasya and was making his first trip there after retirement. The accident has left the family shattered.
Om Prakash is survived by his son and daughter-in-law. The couple’s third granddaughter, Tanvi, remains under treatment in critical condition. Village sarpanch Dalbir Verma said the family had travelled to Mukam Dham in Bikaner for darshan and was on its way back when the fatal accident occurred.
Police have shifted the bodies to the Shri Dungargarh hospital for postmortem and are investigating the case.
