Nearly 13,000 Selangor teens turning 18 this year have yet to claim RM1,500 owed to them under Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor (TAWAS), Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said.
While 21,268 members are eligible, 12,626 have yet to submit their claims.
Outdated Contact Details Are Delaying Claims
Amirudin said the state has struggled to reach eligible members, as some have moved to other states or overseas and changed their phone numbers.
He said the state government will work with local councillors and village heads to trace members who have yet to come forward.
Check Your Status And Claim Via TAWAS Portal
If your child was registered under TAWAS before it closed to new sign-ups in 2018, you can check their claim status and eligibility on TAWAS’s official website using their MyKad or MyKid number.
Claims are typically processed via EFT to the registered guardian’s bank account, and members are generally given a window of one year from their 18th birthday to submit a claim.
A New Scheme Replaced TAWAS In 2022
TAWAS was replaced by Iltizam Anak Selangor (Anas) in 2022 for children born in Selangor from that year onwards.
Under Anas, RM100 is deposited into a child’s National Education Savings Scheme (Simpan SSPN) account each year for five years, bringing the state contribution to RM500. The funds can only be withdrawn once the child turns 18.
Amirudin said Anas participants could receive around RM1,500 by age 18 when combining the RM500 state contribution with dividends and incentives from the Simpan SSPN programme.
