An elderly BMW driver was killed after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a fence at a driving institute in Marang, Terengganu.

MARANG: An elderly man was killed when the BMW he was driving skidded and crashed into the fence of a driving institute along Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan, near Alur Tuman, here today.

Marang police chief Supt Mohd Sofian Redzuan said they received a call from a member of the public regarding the accident in front of the driving institute at 7.30 am.

He said initial investigations found that the 65-year-old victim was driving from Masjid Kelulut to his home in Pulau Kerengga when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer onto the right shoulder of the road before crashing into the fence of the driving institute.

“The man was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe head injuries. The body was sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) for a post-mortem,” he said when contacted today.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
