A 65-year-old woman sadly lost her life after being involved in an accident while buying sugarcane juice at a roadside stall in Melaka.
According to Sinar Harian, she and her 68-year-old husband had parked by the roadside near the stall when a car suddenly crashed into them.
The car swerved to avoid an oncoming car
Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit shared that based on initial investigations, the accident happened when a 70-year-old retired customs officer driving a Proton Persona swerved to avoid an oncoming car that had entered their lane.
Because of that, their car ended up crashing into a Proton Saga parked by the roadside, which had the victim and her husband inside.
“At that moment, a passenger in the Proton Saga was about to get out of the car. The impact pushed the vehicle forward, causing it to hit a parked Perodua Kancil and a nearby stall,” Christopher added.
She was pronounced dead after battling for her life
After fighting for her life in the hospital for 3 hours, the housewife sadly didn’t make it. She suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead while being treated in the Red Zone at Melaka Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Kancil owner, a man, had head wounds and is currently getting treatment in the Yellow Zone.
“The drivers of both the Persona and Proton Saga weren’t hurt, and the victim’s body has been sent to Melaka Hospital’s forensics department for a post-mortem,” said Christopher.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and all the vehicles involved have been seized for inspection at Puspakom.
