A 66-year-old woman in Subang Jaya reportedly lost RM176,000 after falling victim to a love scam.
According to a Facebook post shared by philanthropist Chee Heng Kuan, better known as Uncle Kentang, the woman was subsequently asked to leave her home by her children, who were allegedly angry over what had happened.
Lost RM176,000 to a love scam
Uncle Kentang wrote that the woman had been deceived in a love scam, resulting in the substantial financial loss.
However, no further information was provided regarding how she met the alleged scammer, how long they had been communicating or how the money was transferred.
Following the incident, her children were said to have become angry with her for being careless and naive.
They then allegedly evicted her, leaving her without a place to stay.
Willing to work to support herself
Despite her circumstances, the woman reportedly told Uncle Kentang that she was willing to find work to support herself.
She said she could work as a dishwasher or help prepare drinks at a coffee shop.
Uncle Kentang used her situation to warn the public, particularly older women, to be cautious when forming romantic relationships with strangers.
Love scammers often build emotional connections with their victims before using fabricated emergencies or promises of a future together to request money.
The claims surrounding the woman’s eviction and financial loss have not been independently verified at the time of writing.
