Around 69.10 per cent voting was recorded in the Fatehgarh Sahib district during the urban civic body polls on Tuesday.
The polling was held for the Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib, Mandi Gobindgarh and Bassi Pathana and Khamano civic bodies.
The fate of 341 candidates contesting from 79 wards was sealed in ballot boxes, while one candidate in Mandi Gobindgarh had already been elected unopposed. The results will be declared on May 29.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Sona Thind and SSP Shubham Aggarwal thanked voters as well as officials deployed on election duty for ensuring smooth and peaceful polling.
Mandi Gobindgarh recorded the highest polling at 71.11 per cent, followed by Khamano Nagar Panchayat with 73.56 per cent, Bassi Pathana 67.77 per cent and Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib 64.05 per cent.
Thind said that polling remained peaceful across all polling stations.
Aggarwal said tight security arrangements were made across all polling stations, especially at sensitive and hypersensitive booths, where additional police personnel were deployed.
Though the district administration claimed that proper arrangements had been made at polling booths, several voters alleged that they had to face huge inconvenience due to poor arrangements.
They complained of the lack of drinking water, seating facilities and unusable wheelchairs.
Case against BJP leader
Meanwhile, a case of the violation of the poll code surfaced in Khamano, where the police arrested BJP candidate Harsh Kumar and his relative Sanju Singh after recovering two boxes of liquor from their car during a checking.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
