As many as 341 candidates were left in the fray for the civic body elections in Fatehgarh Sahib district after the completion of scrutiny and withdrawal of nomination papers.

District Election Officer-cum Deputy Commissioner Sona Thind said nominations had been filed by 513 candidates for the elections to the municipal councils of Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib, Mandi Gobindgarh, Bassi Pathana and the Nagar Panchayat of Khamanon.

Of these, 24 nomination papers were rejected during scrutiny, while 147 candidates withdrew their papers.

She said that for the 29 wards of the Mandi Gobindgarh Municipal Council, 209 nominations had been received. Twelve nominations were rejected and 77 withdrawn while one candidate was declared elected unopposed.

For 23 wards of the Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib Municipal Council, 158 nominations were filed. Four nomination papers were rejected and 60 candidates withdrew from the contest.

In Bassi Pathana, 89 nominations were received for 15 wards. Six nomination papers were rejected and six candidates withdrew from the contest.

Similarly, for the 13 wards of Khamanon Nagar Panchayat, 57 nominations were filed, of which two were rejected and four candidates withdrew their papers.

Polling for all 80 wards across the district will be held on May 26.
