Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced that the abolished UPSR will not be making its return.

Instead, the Ministry of Education will implement a Standard 4 assessment starting this year.

He also announced that from 2027 onwards, children aged six will be allowed to enter Standard 1. However, if the child is not yet ready, they may begin Standard 1 at the age of seven.

He added that preschool education will start for children aged five years old.

Anwar made these announcements during the launch of the 2026–2035 National Education Blueprint at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre today.

He further revealed that the PT3 examination will be restored, with students required to sit for five subjects.

“We are bringing back the examination system this year, and both of these assessments will be centrally managed by the Examinations Board.

“Why wait until Standard 6 for evaluation? Standard 4 is still part of the primary school stage,” he said.
