1. MRT Circle Line – RM50.2 billion
The MRT Circle Line is one of Malaysia's most ambitious urban rail projects, set to complete Kuala Lumpur's urban rail network. With a total length of 50.8km and 33 stations, the MRT Circle Line aims to alleviate traffic congestion around densely populated areas like Mont Kiara, Pandan Indah, Setiawangsa, and more. The latest update suggests the project is expected to be fully operational by 2030, we can’t wait!
2. Johor Singapore RTS – RM10 Billion
The Johor Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) is a joint project between Malaysia and Singapore that aims to enhance cross-border connectivity between Johor Bahru and Woodlands, Singapore. This high-speed rail link will provide a convenient and efficient means of transportation for commuters between the two countries. This RTS Link is also expected to replace KTM’s shuttle between JB Sentral and Woodlands once it’s completed, by the end of 2026. On 11 May 2023, progress on Singapore's side hit 50% while Malaysia's side hit 36%. Thanks to the new RTS, Malaysia-Singapore economic ties can be strengthened further, as it will be easier for travelers and workers to visit each country.
3. Jendela Broadband & 5G Technology – RM16.5 Billion
In an increasingly digital world, Malaysia recognizes the importance of robust broadband infrastructure and advanced telecommunications technology. The Jendela Broadband & 5G Technology initiative aims to improve internet connectivity and introduce 5G networks across the country. With an estimated completion by 2026, this project will enable Malaysians to enjoy faster internet speeds, seamless connectivity, and facilitate the adoption of emerging technologies in various sectors such as healthcare, education, and business.
4. Sarawak ART Project – RM6 Billion
The Sarawak Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) project is set to revolutionize transportation in Sarawak by utilizing electrically-powered vehicles running on dedicated tracks, which will enhance public transportation options and reduce congestion in the region. The vehicle will carry up to 300 passengers at one time. The project is expected to be operational by 2026 with 2 lines and 27 stations spanning 52km.
5. Penang South Islands – RM10 billion
The Penang South Islands project aims to create three man-made islands off the southern coast of Penang. This ambitious development will accommodate residential, commercial, and industrial spaces, attracting investments and generating employment opportunities. The latest update indicates that the project is progressing smoothly, and it is expected to be completed by 2030. Over the next 30 years, the 4,500-acre Penang South Islands will not only alleviate overcrowding on the main island but also contribute to the growth of the region and create a sustainable living environment, with 20% of its islands dedicated to biodiversity and wildlife.
6. Pan Borneo Highway – RM27 billion
The Pan Borneo Highway is an ambitious infrastructure project that aims to connect the states of Sabah and Sarawak through a modern and efficient highway network that also runs along the coastlines of Brunei and Kalimantan. With an estimated completion by 2023 for the Sarawak section and by 2025 for the Sabah section, this project will improve transportation connectivity between the two states.
7. East-Coast Rail Link Project – RM80 billion
The East-Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project is a massive undertaking spanning a distance of approximately 665 kilometres. This railway network will connect major areas such as Putrajaya, Terengganu, and Kelantan, fostering better transport options for the nation.
The latest update on the ECRL project indicates that construction is progressing steadily at 41%, expected to complete by December 2026. Once operational, the ECRL will significantly reduce travel time between the east coast and the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
