A 70-year-old man died after suffering a suspected heart attack while on his way to cast his vote during the Municipal Council elections in Chamba on Sunday. The incident cast a shadow of grief over polling in the Jansali ward.

The deceased has been identified as Anjan Sharma.

According to local residents, Sharma had left his home to exercise his franchise and was heading towards the polling booth when he suddenly fell unconscious on the roadside before reaching the station.

People nearby rushed to his aid and shifted him to the Medical College Chamba for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead after examination.

Preliminary information suggests that a heart attack may have caused of death, though officials said the exact reason would be confirmed after medical formalities.

As news of the incident spread, family members and local residents gathered at the medical college. The incident dampened the otherwise energetic election atmosphere in the ward.

Several residents reportedly reached the bereaved family’s home, while others assisted with funeral arrangements.
