Kota Kinabalu: The Kayuhan Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) programme was well received when more than 700 cycling enthusiasts took part in the event.

The programme, jointly organised by the Institut Kerjasama Kerajaan (Ikrar) and Suara Anak Muda Sabah (Suara), was officiated by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Kitingan, who represented the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

The leisurely cycling event was also enlivened by the presence of Ikrar Director Azrul Ibrahim and Suara President Shahril Ag Kassim as well as organising chairman, who is also Suara Secretary General Bibianah Mustafa.

Nizam when met said such programme was in line with the State government’s efforts under the SMJ.

“Congratulations to Ikrar and Suara for their commitment to organising this programme which can strengthen tolerance and harmony between races and religions including promoting a culture of healthy living through cycling.

“I am confident that Ikrar which has been established under the administration of Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor is capable of implementing it,” he said, hoping the programme could also be expanded to other areas.

Meanwhile, Azrul said that the SMJ Cycling programme was his first collaboration with Suara to fulfil the SMJ agenda in the development of human capital in the field of sports.

At the same time, the effort is also one of the platforms to inform the community about the direction of SMJ under the administration of the Chief Minister, he said.

“In the evening, we are also organising a Sabah Youth Relaxation Night and Universal Peace Solidarity at the Old Library Site with a concert by invited and local artists including cultural performances,” he said.

Meanwhile, Helmi said the SMJ Cycling Programme involves cycling a distance of 10km across the Tanjung Lipat route to the Menara Kinabalu roundabout and back to the finish line at the Old Library Site.
