The history of MTHQA, traces back to the establishment of the International Quran Recital Competition in 1961. This competition was initially held at Stadium Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur, with seven participating countries. The event was initiated by Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, the first Malaysian Prime Minister. Over the years, the competition has grown and evolved, eventually leading to the formation of MTHQA, which combines both the Tilawah (recitation) and Manghafaz (memorization) of the Quran. It is aimed of promoting the Quran and fostering a strong Islamic foundation among the Muslims.

In conjunction with 65th MTHQA, I met a long time friend, Br. Ceazar (Mohammad Ismael) M. Maranda, CPA, Regional Director, South Luzon Regional Office, National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), Office of the President of Republic of the Philippines, with his wife, Sr. Noraine Maranda. We have been involved organizing a series of International Islamic Finance in Manila, Cotabato City in Mindanao and International Islamic University Malaysia. He was in the team of NCMF & Philippines Muslim Accountants Association, whereas I represented International Council of Islamic Finance Educators.

Ismael said, “The Philippines has consistently participated in the MTHQA since its inception in 1961. For 65th MTHQA, the strong Philippine delegations are being led by NCMF Secretary (Minister) Hon. Sabbudin Abdurahim and two reciters are Halima Baudting Dalundong & Jassim Bacarat Hadji Daud."
