As many as 75.61 per cent voter turnout was recorded during the first phase of the elections to panchayati raj institutions in Bilaspur district on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar said that the highest turnout of 80.45 per cent was recorded in Shri Naina Devi Ji development block while the lowest polling of 71.76 per cent was reported in Ghumarwin development block. He added that 79.23 per cent women voters cast their vote while 72.04 per cent males exercised their right to franchise.

Rahul said that polling was held in 62 gram panchayats of the district (17 panchayats in Bilaspur Sadar development block, 21 in Ghumarwin, nine in Shri Naina Devi Ji and 15 panchayats in Jhandutta development block).

The Deputy Commissioner said that 17 panchayats of Bilaspur Sadar development block recorded a voter turnout of 78.86 per cent, 21 panchayats of Ghumarwin development block (71.76 per cent), nine panchayats of Shri Naina Devi Ji development block (80.45 per cent) and 15 gram panchayats of Jhandutta development block (75.16 per cent).
