Ajax attacker Quincy Promes insists his goal against Chelsea should've stood last night.

Promes had Ajax 1-0 ahead in the Champions League tie - but VAR ruled it out for offside. Chelsea went onto win 1-0 thanks to Michy Batshuayi's goal.

It was very funny that it was rejected, I don't know if it was offside," said Promes.

"But afterwards, of course, I don't buy anything from it. You can see it in two ways. I could say in my favour that it was not offside, but we have to accept the VAR.

I think the central defender was still there and he was still changing direction. I feel that I came from behind the shot when the ball had already left."

He added: There was a big battle and ultimately you hope that we will at least have a draw. So it is extra bitter that we are now empty-handed."
