BEAUFORT: Eight Umno branch chiefs in are not happy that a Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate, instead of from Umno, will contest in Sipitang parliamentary constituency in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Their representative, Jamal Jakim, said that they and their members will quit Umno and vote for other candidates and not the GRS candidate, Datuk Matbali Musah, on polling day.
“We including the voters in Kampung Lumadan and Kampung Jaya Baru disagree with the decision to let the GRS candidate contest in Sipitang, which means the State Umno leadership does not care about the voices of the grassroots. Therefore, we declare we will pull out from Umno.
“We want and expect it will be an Umno candidate to stand in Sipitang parliamentary constituency but instead they gave it to GRS…we are greatly disappointed,” he said.
He said the people especially voters in their area do not like party-hopping leaders, especially those in Bersatu, who were previously from Umno.
“We will give our vote to any of the opposition candidates who can give benefit to the voters,” he said.
