Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Yusri Hassan Basri said 8,940 accidents were recorded nationwide between Oct 17 and 21, up 5.2% from 8,408 cases during the same period last year.

“The highest number of deaths with 61 people or 72% this year involved motorcyclists and pillion riders, a decrease of 20% from 76 deaths last year,” he said in a statement.

Yusri noted that 43,379 summonses were issued this year, compared to 52,090 in 2024, marking a reduction of 8,711 summonses.

“Based on the decrease in the number of deaths and summonses issued, road users’ awareness of traffic regulations and road laws is increasing,” he added.
