As per the directions of the Election Commission of India, a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will begin in Punjab from June 25. During the exercise, booth-level officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door verification and fill forms related to the revision from June 25 to July 24.
Chairing a special meeting with representatives of various political parties at the DC office, Dalwinderjit Singh asked them to appoint booth-level representatives for the process.
He said that under the pre-SIR exercise, 88.27 per cent of the mapping work in the district had already been completed. The district has a total of 2,134 polling stations and 1,971,179 voters. Of these, 1,739,946 voters have been mapped, while 231,233 voters are yet to be mapped.
The DC further stated that the district administration has deployed 2,134 BLOs and 213 supervisors, along with the entire election staff, for the exercise.
He said the training of BLOs and other preparatory work would be carried out from June 15 to 24, while the rationalisation of polling stations would be completed by July 24.
The draft electoral roll will be published on July 31. Claims and objections regarding the voter lists can be submitted between July 31 and August 30, while their disposal will take place from July 31 to September 28. The final electoral roll will be published on October 1.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to all political parties to appoint their booth-level agents and submit the relevant information to the offices of the concerned Electoral Registration Officers. He clarified that no government employee can work as a booth-level agent.
He added that the voter helpline number for Amritsar district is 1950 and residents can obtain any information related to elections or the SIR process through the helpline.
