Tory Burch has demonstrated how its take on the modern woman right now is what fashion needs at the moment – textural, tactile, sportive and a fresh take on classics. And the Autumn/Winter 2025 collection is exactly that and more.
It’s been a long minute since the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) hosted a show at New York Fashion Week. For Tory Burch to present her Fall/Winter 2025 collection at MoMA, it has drawn the right amount of attention and excitement. The show witnesses an A-list f-row comprising celebrities like Amanda Seyfried, Alexandra Daddario, Ciara, Jodie-Turner Smith, Martha Stewart and Malaysia’s very own Sinje Lee.
Tory Burch notes: “Twisted American sportswear. A second glance at classics; prim cardigans are slashed through the sleeves; sweatpants are knit in Japanese brushed jersey; sweaters are embroidered to look like tweed. A wardrobe collected over time, where each piece becomes irreplaceable: the perfect blazer, a favourite dress, a worn-in sweatshirt. Women are defining ‘classic’ for themselves.”
The collection is considered and thoughtful to say the least. It truly revisits the essentials and what a modern woman’s wardrobe needs today; it draws down to the fundamentals – a classic shirt, a must-have blazer, a staple coat, and the ever-dependable tailored pants.
There is an overarching sense of comfort that surrounds the models – no restraint, just ease as they glide down the stairs from the first floor to the ground floor.
A dark blue number opens the show — a wooly jacket over a sleek pants with flared zip detailing, and across the shoulders, a wraparound cardigan fastened by a pin. Look 2 carries the same attitude with a more laid-back sporty vibe. As Looks 3, 4 and 5 walk down, a more formal sensibility takes over through structured cuts and sleeker styling. Within the first minute into the show, the mood is clear: Tory Burch AW25 is headed towards a timeless, elegant and effortless route.
By the seventh look, the repertoire bursts out with a gush of vigour. Bright reds, turmeric, and apple green come out as a surprise for the night — an unexpected touch for fall, but the right amount of interest interspersed between the dominant swatches of neutrals, brown and denim. Prints are also prevalent, achieved through knits, tweeds and refined detailing; creating strong statement pieces like in Looks 19, 21 and 28.
The collection starts to proceed to more plush evening looks starting from Look 30. A soft taupe ensemble consisting of a pleated skirt and a blazer. There’s a unique treatment on the blazer here, almost like a membrane on its outer layer – that’s truly something else! And hold on one minute… there’s also Alex Cosani rocking that look.
There’s a lot of movement here, offering life to the show. At the same time, luxurious materials are incorporated in counterintuitive ways. From a cut-out dress sculpted entirely in corduroy to sweatpants in a plush Japanese jersey, there’s a solid sense of tactility going on in the collection. Fabrics are developed to look worn as well – think brushed alpaca, fraying tweed, and wrinkled velvet threaded with metal.
The Tory Burch woman is confident and just as how the show started with a dark blue number, the same rich tone closes the show with a statement dress featuring a strong shoulder and slits on the arms – a clear design language, unassuming and celebrates the human form.
When it comes to accessorising, Tory Burch continues to amaze with a slew of bags that are tactile and soft. The Pierced bag and Balloon bag are crafted in leathers typically used for shoes. Another icon, the Eleanor bag, gets a deconstructed finish in pillowy leather, along with the best-selling Romy bucket bag in cognac suede and faux croc.
As the show wraps with a final procession, the collection is proven to be an excellent understanding of the modern day woman who is constantly on-the-go and evolving. The styling is pared back – sleek hair and minimal colours on the face – allowing the clothes to shine and the attitude to stand out. The whimsy is to be discovered, not announced. There is an underlying fun throughout the collection, and we love it!
