For everything that matters in tech

SoCar is now offering one-way intercity bookings for greater flexibility. This means you can pick up the car in Kuala Lumpur and you can drop it off in either Johor Bahru or Penang.

This one-way intercity booking feature would typically cost RM200 but it is now offered at no extra charge. This means all you’ll need to pay is the SoCar booking fee and additional mileage that’s applicable.

The SoCar intercity feature is available only at selected locations in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Penang. Below are the pick-up and arrival locations which are marked with an “Intercity pin in the SoCar app:

Do note that SoCar provides a mileage of 20 km per hour or 240 km per day for their bookings. If you exceed the mileage, you’ll need to pay for excess usage which starts from RM0.35 per km depending on vehicle.

For example, if you’re booking a one-way trip on a Honda City with 48 hours usage from Johor Bahru to Penang, it will cost you RM407.98 and it comes included with 480 km of mileage. A trip from JB to Penang has a distance of about 700 km, and that means you’ll need to pay for at least 220 km of extra mileage which would cost you RM77. The extra mileage will be charged after you return the vehicle.

SoCar no longer offers a petrol card in their vehicles and you’ll have to pay for fuel first and then claim for reimbursement. If you opt to be refunded via SoCar points, you can get it instantly with an additional 10% in value. The SoCar points can be used to pay for your next SoCar booking.

In case you didn’t know, you can also place a one-way SoCar booking to KLIA or KLIA2. If you’re new to SoCar, you can sign up here.
