The government has agreed to extend the deferment of Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) loan repayments to 6 months, effective immediately. This means that loan repayments will now be postponed until 30 September 2020, according to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The extended deferment is expected to benefit 1.5 million borrowers, with a total collection of RM750 million. Prior to this, the government had agreed to defer PTPTN loan repayments for 3 months, until 30 June 2020.

The extension of deferment was announced as part of the Revised Economic Stimulus Package 2020, meant to assist Malaysia’s economy, which was badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. For further information, PTPTN borrowers can contact PTPTN’s Careline at 03-2193 3000, between 9am to 5pm (weekdays).

Aside from PTPTN, various banks and non-banking institutions are also offering financial aid to those in need during this troubling time.
