Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is urging Matty Longstaff to sign a new contract.
Off contract at the end of the season, Longstaff has a £35k-a-week offer from Serie A side Udinese, and could be loaned to Watford if he makes that move.
Bruce said of Longstaff: “We hope we can resolve something and there is still dialogue. We want him to stay. We have made him a really good offer and we want to get it over the line.
“We have had a couple of conversations since we came back. We are desperate for him to stay. He is a young local lad, a remarkable rise very quickly.
“He has been offered a fantastic deal in my opinion. I hope he accepts it. We will see where it takes us."
