Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is confident Lionel Messi will retire with the club.

Messi is now inside the final year of his contract and there was talk over the weekend of contact with Manchester City.

But Bartomeu told RAC1: "He has a contract until June 2021.

"Normally we don't explain it, but we have an obligation to extend Messi. He is the best player in football history, which is why we have to extend him.

"I spoke with Messi on Sunday. I am a president who enjoys talking to players. It's okay to do this and there are many topics to discuss.

"Yes I am calm, Leo has already said it several times, he wants to retire at Barça and I have no doubt that he will."
